"Staff went far beyond what we expected. Every single person was always accommodating and helpful. The room was magnificent. In hindsight I think a regular tub would have been enough. The huge ceramic outside tub was beautiful, but being from California and drought conditions I felt guilty filling up the huge tub every night. Also eloquent, but if you are seniors, or have any hip/back complaints, there were multiple stairs inside our room. Although shallow, two up at entry. Two down for living room and one up for futon area. We had breakfasts which were eloquently prepared. But beware that they are geared for the Japanese taste (as would/should be expected) so various fishes/seafood and vegetables maybe a bit foreign. Even the ‘western’ breakfast was not typical of the US. On the second morning we were served spaghetti with 2 kinds of fish, cold Japanese rolled eggs, and the ubiquitous salad, and of course rolls/bread. "

"We loved our stay here! Definitely want to return to stay at this onsen. We were greeted at check in with a sweet gift for our honeymoon it was so thoughtful! We loved arashiyama and the convenience of how walkable our hotel was to both stations and the town. The beds are so comfortable the room we stayed in was spacious. We loved how traditional this hotel was tatami mat floors and all. The best part was the onsens, we both have tattoos and loved that they had 5 different private onsens to choose from. In the evening dinner-10pm it stayed pretty busy so we opted for early morning soaks and all were empty between 5-7am. Perfect way to start our day. 10/10 stay at this hotel when we come back to kyoto we plan to stay here again! "

"I usually don't review stays, but i had to for this Ryokan Yamazaki! The property is clean, quiet, beautiful and peaceful. Above all, the service we received was outstanding. The staff are very kind and patient. They were very understanding with foreigners as well, and explained everything we needed. I was very sick to my stomach when i arrived, due to motion sickness. My husband went to ask for directions to a pharmacy, and the staff drove him there personally and helped him pick out medicine! He didn't ask, and they insisted. Akagi was so wonderful and sweet. I firmly believe the rest, peace and kindness here turned around my health and helped me enjoy the rest of my trip. i can't wait to come back. Arigato gozaimasu!! 🙇‍♀️"
