What you can expect

York is home to the world's most famous chocolate bars and brands, and there is a lot of love here in the chocolate city for all things cocoa. Join us in our academy and learn how to create your very own chocolate bar. You will discover our cocoa origins, we will show you how to work with tempered chocolate, and you will experiment with different flavours to perfect your masterpiece! Once the bars have set, you will be able to enjoy your beautifully wrapped creations at home.

During this workshop you will:
Discover where cocoa comes from and its origins
Learn we manufacture our chocolate here on site
Try a selection of our own white, milk and dark chocolate
Then work with your chosen chocolate to mould and design a chocolate bar
Flavour & Decorate your chocolate bar

We went to York Cocoa Works to do the chocolate making workshop as part of our stay in York, and we left quite disappointed. The workshop was at 2:30pm. When we arrived at 2:30pm sharp, to our surprise, they had already started a few minutes before which was unexpected. The workshop felt rushed as we barely had time to enjoy the process of doing our chocolate bar. We were given chocolate bar pieces to melt into a new chocolate bar with toppings. We were then asked to wait for 45min until the bars were ready and also clear space for the next class to start. I’m not sure this was worth the £50 we paid… I’ve given them two stars as the chocolate bars we made were tasty and of good portion, but we would have wished for a more comprehensive workshop or provide expectations of the activity upfront.

We were just expecting a bit more for £25 each, it didn’t take place in the kitchen due to filming and I thought we’d be more involved with actually creating some chocolate instead of just melting some in a bowl and pouring it into a mould. This is nothing against the host as she was lovely but just feel it was quite expensive for what it was.

Really enjoyed this workshop. Appreciated it going ahead (despite me being the only person booked on it). Guide was friendly and happy to answer questions. Nice length of workshop if you took kids etc. Was a really good wet weather option!

Really interesting the young facilitator was brilliant, the size of the chocolate 🍫 was big and we felt very welcome and, also got 10% off in the shop. I'd do it again.
