What you can expect

One of the most photographed buildings in the world, Neuschwanstein Castle towers majestically on a rugged hill, like a fairy tale come to life. Beat the long visitor queues, take a glimpse at the private chambers, and marvel at splendid views while accompanied by an expert guide.

Meet your guide at Munich central station and start your journey. High above the medieval roofs stands an incredible sight: the ethereal former personal refuge of Bavaria's King Ludwig II. This graceful structure is among the best-known on earth. It even inspired Disney's Sleeping Beauty castle.

Your guide walks with you uphill to the castle's lofty perch. Roam the surroundings, where jaw-dropping views take your breath away. See the opulent Hohenschwangau Castle on top of a neighboring hill, right behind a waterfall gorge and the bridge spanning over it—a truly mesmerizing sight.

Opt for an internal tour of Neuschwanstein to skip the long lines and hear about the often turbulent reign of Ludwig II, as you wander through elegant halls and intimate private chambers.

Entrance tickets for Neuschwanstein are a guaranteed option you can purchase at the Radius Tours office at check-in. The cost is 24 Euro per adult.

The tour guide, Michelle, is awesome and very knowledgeable. Loved learning about Ludwig II and having my interest heightenedby the history and stories. It made the tour of the castle amazing for we had a higher level of appreciation for the history, castle, and King.

The trip was advertised as a train excursion and our transportation was via bus from Munich to the castle. Bus was comfortable. The guide offered a lot of back ground information and found it very interesting. Total trip took approximately 9 hours from start to finish.

Tour was perfect. Radius Tours was easy to find and it commenced on time. Large air conditioned bus. Our guide, Steve from Limerick, was funny, nice, helpful, concerned and knowledgeable about the history of Germany and the castles. Trip took 2 hrs to get there with 1 rest stop. Once there, Steve discussed our options and timetable for our tour. We had free time either to see Hohenschwangau, walk to the lake, shop or eat. The walk up to the castle is daunting so many of us chose to take the bus. Steve showed us how to do that. The bus stopped at Mary’s Bridge. We walked to the bridge for the classic Neuschwanstein photo then easily walked to the castle. Steve was right there by the 4 flags as we all met at the designated time. Castle tour was excellent. Be advised there are quite a few steps up the tower to start the tour and no photos inside. Photo opps abound along the trail, at the castle and below at the town. Our driver and Steve made the day fun, safe and totally interesting.

So awesome! Loved the whole trip. Kathrin is so nice and got us to all the cool photo stops and to the castle on time. The Bavarian countryside is so beautiful that it doesn’t seem real.

The guide, Aileen, was engaging and gave good advice. Travel was by private coach rather than the advertised train. The structure of the day is risk averse so the main castle tour is right in the middle, making a trip to the other castle almost impossible, but still has long gaps that are difficult to exploit. Leaves at 9:30, back at 6:15. The start point is their office 5 minutes from the main station so be prepared to find it.
