Cathedral of St. Philip the Apostle

The Cathedral of Puerto Plata or Cathedral of San Felipe Apóstol is one of the places of inescapable visit in your passage through the city of Puerto Plata. This monumental building stands on the side of Central Park and gives the area unparalleled splendour and beauty. Its foundation dates from 1502, but due to the fire caused by the restorers in 1863 it was completely destroyed. And it wasn’t until 1956 that it was completely restored, although in 2008 it was remodeled. The cathedral has great religious value for Dominicans and is one of the most important pilgrimage points in the whole Dominican Republic.
Casa Museo General Gregorio Luperon

The General Gregorio Luperón House Museum is a cultural space dedicated to conveying the values of the national hero and leader of the Dominican Restoration, General Gregorio Luperón, highlighting the aspects of their lives that have been collected in a special way to be exposed as a heritage of Puerto Plata, which left the legacy of freedom to the country. The museum is located in the same place where the general is known to have spent his last days, which represents a landmark for the city of Puerto Plata. The entire history of the life and work of the first figure and sword of the Restoration manifests itself and comes to life in each of the stations that highlight in detail the stages as a human being and as leader of this emblematic son of Puerto Plata.

It is an impressive Greek amphitheater of 2,062 square meters facing the Atlantic Ocean with capacity for 4,000 spectators. Flanked by Fortress San Felipe, and the green La Puntilla park, it is the perfect setting for concerts, dance shows and other artistic events that take place here occasionally with the participation of Dominican and international artists.
Fortaleza San Felipe

With a strategic location within the limits of the historic center of the city of Puerto Plata, La Fortaleza San Felipe was completed in 1577 as part of the colonial military structures that would make up the defense system of the Caribbean; a strategy articulated from the Spanish crown in order to defend and protect the new conquered lands and the marine routes of smuggling, Corsican and piracy. The construction of the Fort passed endless setbacks that came from the crown and local officials who were not interested in the work finishing. Consequently, the Royal Audience of Santo Domingo instructs Francisco Ceballos who began the work in March 1563 with the elevation of the wall that would serve as protection to the Castle. After Ceballos died in 1572, he was replaced by Pedro Rengifo de Angulo who managed to finish the building in 1577.
