Overview

Visit 2 cities in one day trip from Bangkok.

During this tour we will visit some historical temples in Ayutthaya and afterwards continue to Lopburi to visit the famous monkey-temple.

Ayutthaya, a kingdom that existed from 1350 to 1767, is a fantastic destination for culture lovers. During these four centuries, the country grew into the nation of Siam (the former name of Thailand), which roughly occupied the territory of modern Thailand, with the exception of the Lanna kingdom in northern Thailand.

Lopburi is one of Thailand’s oldest cities, being inhabited continuously since the Dvaravati era, that started 15 centuries ago. During the 10th century Lopburi became part of the Khmer empire. The Khmers built a number of impressive monuments, many of which still exist today.
During the reign of King Narai the Great in the second half of the 17th century, Lopburi was made the second capital of the Ayutthaya Kingdom.

  • Regarding our visit to Lopburi: You must always remember that, no matter what, monkeys are wild animals, not pets. Even though they may look cute, especially the young ones, we always recommend to keep your distance, not bring any food with you and keep all your belongings in your bag. You don't need to come close as it’s just as fun to watch the monkeys from a distance.

It was a very good and informative trip. The trip occurred on the day of the earthquake. Because the bts and mrt were closed it was going to be a logistical nightmare to get to our hotel from Chinatown. Our guide Tanya helped us immensely in our efforts to get to back to the hotel by helping us navigate the canals by speedboat. That alone was an adventure on its own. Appreciate that they went out of their way to help us.

I cannot express how much I loved the this tour. Our guide Surina had a wealth of information, she kept us entertained with stories and history throughout the drive and made sure everyone had enough time and opportunity to see what the needed. Our lunch stop was delicious, and Petra for snacks and restrooms were timely. Surina and Jerawat ensured that everyone was comfortable and happy. The monkeys were epic, the temple gorgeous and the city of Ayutthaya breathtaking.

Today we saw the several ancient temples in Ayutthaya. The tour guide, Piya, was both entertaining and informative. This guy has a lot of energy! Our next stop was Lopburi to see the monkeys. This town was previously overrun by monkeys, though they have taken great steps in which to control them. Learned there was a “monkey jail“ that they have outside of town. There are still many monkeys near the Hindu temple at the center of town and the surrounding businesses. Again the tour guide, Piya, was clearly known by all the monkeys. He had a special connection with them and knowledge of the different “monkey gangs.“ This was clearly why I signed up for this tour and was the high point. This is a full day tour and you really get your moneys worth!

The tour was amazing, all pretty well organized. The pick up and drop off was perfect, the tour guide was really good, patient and friendly. The place we had lunch was also delicious but a little bit pricey.

My trip to Ayutthaya and Lopburi was an unforgettable experience filled with history, culture, and unique sights. Ayutthaya’s ancient temples and ruins were breathtaking, showcasing the grandeur of a once-thriving kingdom. Exploring the historical park felt like stepping back in time, with impressive structures like Wat Mahathat and its famous Buddha head entwined in tree roots. The blend of crumbling architecture and serene atmosphere created a truly magical vibe. Lopburi was equally fascinating, especially the playful monkeys around Phra Prang Sam Yot. Watching them interact in the midst of ancient Khmer ruins was both entertaining and surreal. The contrast between the historical sites and the lively monkeys made it a unique experience. Both cities offered a perfect mix of adventure and cultural discovery. The local food was delicious, and the friendly guide made the trip even more enjoyable. I highly recommend visiting Ayutthaya and Lopburi for anyone seeking a memorable journey through Thailand’s rich past.

He made sure to keep us safe and respectful to the traditions and culture of wherever we were visiting.

What a wonderful day experiencing two ancient cities! We got a lot done in one day but never felt rushed, the time spent at each temple was perfect. Our guide, Piya, was very knowledgeable and helped us learn more about the history than I would have on my own. He was kind, funny, and takes great photos!

This was the perfect tour for me, a combination of history and animals. A half day was the perfect amount of time to take in the beauty of Ayutthaya without getting templed-out. The monkeys of Lopburi stole the show. I had a great time feeding them. Our guide was amazing, he really made a great day even better.

Great tour and great guide Tony This is a full day tour. The lunch stop is very good. The van used was new but way too cramped and most uncomfortable. Visited three temples at the right pace Plus monkey area so great experience
