What you can expect

This tour takes place along the path that runs along the well-known “Ruta de los Volcanes”, exactly on its final trail. Along approximately 6 km of the tour you will learn first-hand about the most recent history of volcanology on the island of La Palma.
We start from an area near the visitor centre of the San Antonio volcano, next to which we will walk during the first part of the guided tour. After a few minutes of descent on picón soil, we reach a fairly comfortable dirt track and from this point we can see the Teneguía volcano, which erupted in 1971 and which represents a symbol for the municipality of Fuencaliente, where we are.
We are inside the protected area of the Volcanes de Teneguía Natural Monument, which allows us to discover not only this penultimate terrestrial eruption, but also other previous volcanic formations. Walking through the black volcanic soil with views of the Atlantic Ocean, knowing that this was the youngest part of La Palma until the eruption of the Tajogaite volcano and seeing other islands on clear days will be a gift to the eye that you will not fail to photograph.
The trail ends in the area of the lighthouses. Yes, you read that right, two lighthouses are located on the coast of Fuencaliente, next to the salt flats, an area that you will be able to enjoy and learn much more about thanks to our guide. The black of the volcano, the blue of the sky and the sea and the white of the salt come together to form the colours of the south of the island.
As a final touch, we include a drink at the Jardín de la Sal restaurant, in the surroundings of the salt flats, to recharge your batteries while you enjoy this special place.
If you want to discover why it is said that La Palma is a miniature continent, this is one of the essential tours on your list.
