Standing at a staggering 270 meters deep, Su Sterru is the single-drop sinkhole of Europe and an iconic feature of the Golgo Plateau, situated 400 meters above sea level in the Baunei region. According to local lore, Su Sterru was once home to a serpent, su scultone, a threat only dispelled in the 17th century with the construction of the nearby San Pietro Church.
