I have crafted this tour to ensure you experience the very best that Sintra has to offer within a timeframe of 3 to 5 hours. I've come up with 3 main aspects that capture the essence of Sintra: Monuments, Mountain and Coast. Our tour is a carefully crafted exploration that showcases the rich cultural heritage and breathtaking landscapes of this remarkable place. Throughout our journey, we'll make stops that allow you to appreciate Sintra's treasures fully untill we get to the top where we can see the view of the Pena Palace, one of the most wellknown attractions in Sintra and perhaps in Portugal.
Fonte da Sabuga (Pass by)
Famous for the health giving quality of its waters, the first references to the Fonte da Sabuga date back to medieval times. Here we will stop to have a sip of the "miraculous" water and hear some stories about Portugal.
Centro Historico de Sintra (Pass by)
Standing in the historical heart of Sintra, this is the best-preserved medieval royal residence in Portugal, with its early construction dating back to the medieval ages. We will stop at a viewpoint where you'll be able to see the National Palace.
Castelo dos Mouros (Pass by)
Built by the Moors in the 8th and 9th centuries, it was an important strategic point during the Reconquista, and was taken by Christian forces after the fall of Lisbon in 1147. Considered to the "crown" of Sintra. We will stop at certain viewpoints where you'll be able to see the Castle.
Palácio e Parque Biester (Pass by)
The Chalet Biester was built in the central and northern European architectural style, which was very much in vogue in late 19th century Portugal, as the anachronic paradigm of a summer residence, in Sintra. It is an eclectic project. Its designers took full advantage not only of its architecture and interior decoration which oscillate between belated romanticism and art-nouveau but also its surrounding landscape, as it is located in a garden and leafy botanical park designed by the famous landscape gardener Nogré. We will stop at a viewpoint where you'll be able to see the Bieter Chalet.
Park and National Palace of Pena (Pass by)
Sintra boasts one of its most renowned and iconic attractions, a must-see not only in the town but also in all of Portugal. Perched atop the Sintra Hills, this place holds a special spot in Portugal's royal history, symbolizing the zenith of monarchy in the country. Nestled within an expansive 85-hectare (210-acre) natural park, this magnificent and lush palace has been recognized and celebrated by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. We will stop at a viewpoint where you'll be able to see the Pena Palace.
Sintra Mountains
  • 1h 30m
Once we've immersed ourselves in the rich history and awe-inspiring monuments, it's time to venture further into the embrace of the mountain. Prepare to be captivated by its unparalleled beauty as we traverse its entire range, punctuated by a few carefully chosen stops to relish the panoramic vistas.
Estrada da Peninha (Pass by)
While touring the mountain range, we will make a quick stop to marvel at a view over the bay of Cascais and the atlantic ocean with marvelous beaches at a distance.
Sintra-Cascais Natural Park
  • 1h 30m
  • Admission ticket not included
Leaving the mountains behind, we journey towards the stunning coastline, where rugged cliffs and golden beaches frame the vast Atlantic Ocean. This part of the tour highlights the raw beauty of Portugal’s westernmost shores, including the dramatic Cabo da Roca, the fascinating Boca do Inferno, the charming village of Cascais, and the scenic Marginal Road that leads back to Lisbon.
Cabo da Roca (Pass by)
Standing at the westernmost point of continental Europe, Cabo da Roca is a place of breathtaking natural beauty. Towering cliffs rise above the wild Atlantic, offering panoramic views that once led explorers to believe this was the edge of the known world. A visit here is a must to experience the dramatic landscapes and feel the power of the ocean beneath you.
Boca do Inferno (Pass by)
Located near Cascais, Boca do Inferno (Hell’s Mouth) is a striking rock formation where the sea crashes into a cavernous opening, creating a thunderous spectacle. Over time, the relentless power of the waves has shaped this unique coastal landmark, making it one of the most dramatic spots on Portugal’s coastline.
Cascais (Pass by)
Once a humble fishing village, Cascais has evolved into one of Portugal’s most charming seaside destinations. With its picturesque streets, elegant mansions, and lively marina, Cascais beautifully blends history and modern coastal living.
Avenida Marginal (Pass by)
The journey back to Lisbon takes us along the Marginal Road, a stunning coastal drive that hugs the shoreline between Cascais and the capital. With sweeping ocean views, charming seaside towns, and historic fortresses along the way, this road trip is an experience in itself, offering a perfect end to our adventure.
Doca Do Bom Sucesso
  • 2h 30m
  • Admission ticket not included
After a scenic drive along the Marginal Road, we arrive at Doca do Bom Sucesso, where our adventure takes to the water. Here, Captain Ivo and his crew welcome us aboard the Estrela for a spectacular Tagus River cruise. As we sail along Lisbon’s waterfront, we’ll witness the city’s most iconic landmarks from a breathtaking new perspective, feeling the gentle sway of the river as we enjoy the open-air experience. This is more than just a sightseeing tour—it’s a full sensory experience! As we sail past Lisbon’s most iconic landmarks, Ivo sets the perfect atmosphere with live music and a welcome drink!
Torre de Belem (Pass by)
One of Lisbon’s most famous monuments, the Torre de Belém is a majestic fortress that once protected the city’s harbor. Built in the early 1500s, this UNESCO World Heritage site is a masterpiece of Manueline architecture, adorned with maritime motifs that reflect Portugal’s seafaring history.
Padrao dos Descobrimentos (Pass by)
A towering tribute to Portugal’s Age of Discovery, the Padrão dos Descobrimentos stands like a ship’s bow facing the river. It honors legendary navigators like Prince Henry the Navigator, Vasco da Gama, and Ferdinand Magellan, who set sail from Lisbon in search of new worlds.
Mosteiro dos Jeronimos (Pass by)
From the river, you can admire the Mosteiro dos Jerónimos, an architectural gem and a symbol of Portugal’s maritime power. Built with riches from global trade, this grand monastery showcases intricate stone carvings and is the final resting place of Vasco da Gama, the explorer who opened the sea route to India.
MAAT - Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology (Pass by)
The futuristic Museum of Art, Architecture, and Technology (MAAT) stands out with its sleek, wave-like design that mirrors the movement of the river. This contemporary museum is a symbol of Lisbon’s modern creative spirit, blending cutting-edge exhibitions with a stunning riverside setting.
Museu da Eletricidade (Pass by)
Next to MAAT, the Museu da Eletricidade is housed in a former power station with striking red brick architecture. This unique museum tells the story of Lisbon’s electrification, showcasing vintage machinery and interactive exhibits that highlight Portugal’s industrial evolution.
25 de Abril Bridge (Pass by)
As we continue our cruise, we sail beneath the Ponte 25 de Abril, Lisbon’s iconic suspension bridge. With its red color and steel design, it’s often compared to San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge. This engineering marvel spans the Tagus River, connecting Lisbon to Almada.
Praca do Comercio (Terreiro do Paco) (Pass by)
One of Europe’s most stunning squares, Praça do Comércio welcomes visitors with its grand arcades and the impressive Arco da Rua Augusta. Once the heart of Portugal’s maritime trade, today it’s a vibrant space filled with cafés and historic charm, offering a stunning view from the river.
Santuario Nacional de Cristo Rei (Pass by)
On the opposite bank of the river, the towering Cristo Rei statue stands with open arms, blessing the city of Lisbon. Inspired by Rio de Janeiro’s Christ the Redeemer, this monument was built in gratitude for Portugal being spared from World War II. From its base, visitors enjoy one of the best panoramic views of Lisbon.
Tagus River
  • 30m
  • Admission ticket not included
As we reach the final stop of our incredible cruise, the boat comes to a peaceful halt in the middle of the Tagus River. Here, surrounded by the stunning views of Lisbon and the soft lapping of the water, Captain Ivo takes center stage for a live music concert like no other. Ivo’s music fills the air, blending tropical vibes with soulful rhythms, creating a warm and intimate atmosphere.
