Then, you will travel about 90 km along Highway No. 13 (south) until getting close to Ban Thabok (Bolikhamsay Province), where you will turn left and follow a dirt road for another 7 km before reaching Ban Hatkhai. This is actually your starting point. And you will be taken to Pha Xay waterfall by a transport truck and pass green rice fields and beautiful forest.
The orchid trek begins at Pha Xay, a 40 m high cliff, only few hundred meters downstream of Tad Xay. Not only the abundance of orchids but also the insights into their specific biology and ecology will surprise you.
You will also have a great chance to know many other plants the local people use for medical purposes or food supplement. You will have a picnic lunch in the midst of the forest. Then, you will return to the access road where you will be taken back eight kilometers to Ban Hatkhai by car. It is expected to finally arrive in Vientiane in the late afternoon at around 6.30 p.m.
Please keep in mind that orchids are rare plants, even in a National Park! Do not pick any flower you will find. Just enjoy their beauty at their natural place and not in your hand. Taking photos is allowed, though.
