What you can expect

Discover the magic of The Pearl of the Danube at Christmas time with a walking tour of Budapest's Christmas markets. Savor traditional treats, explore cultural traditions, and bask in the holiday spirit as you walk through Deák Square, Vörösmarty Square, Vigadó Square, and St. Stephen's Square. During our tour we will taste the traditional crunchy cake called kürtőskalác.

Start your walk in Erzsébet tér, and learn about the origins of the Advent Wreath, what Saint Nicholas means to the Hungarians, and how they celebrate Christmas Eve. Continue to Deák Square and its wonderful Christmas market, where you can taste the most typical Hungarian Christmas dishes.

Next is the market of the Vörösmarty Square, the oldest, richest, and the most spectacular of all the Christmas markets in Budapest. Explore cottage-style wooden stalls and two outdoor stages with music, food, trinkets, and a joyous Advent and Christmas fair.

Then, make your way to Vigadó Square, where you will understand the meaning of New Year's Eve for the Hungarians. Walk to József Nádor Square and the famous Hungarikum, where you can find the most characteristic products of the country.

Finally, St. Stephen's Square awaits you, elegantly decorated for the occasion. Wrap up the tour at the Gresham Palace, where you will find the famous tradition of szaloncukor, a sweet traditionally associated with Christmas.
