Feature Hotel: The Colony Hotel – Seminyak, Bali

Scene: Contemporary resort that makes paradise feel like home

Located in the heart of paradise, quite literally, The Colony Hotel puts you exactly where you want to be in Seminyak – the beach is at your door step, the best restaurants and bars just minutes away, and an intimate setting of only 20 rooms means your privacy is truly all yours.

Colony Hotel Seminyak

The Colony falls under the “boutique hotel” category – but put to rest any expectations of anything overly offbeat. Here, “boutique” refers to the comfortably contemporary design.

Lots of white, airy spaces accentuate the ample sunlight filtering through, and touches of black and brown (rattan and wood) bring out the rustic Bali charm. Marble floors help deflect some of the heat while adding to a subtle sense of luxury (when on holiday, spoil yourself right?). If it feels modern it’s because it is – having only recently opened in 2011.

Rooms are laid out surrounding the 16m-long outdoor pool, and with a “no children under 16 policy” you can be assured a relaxing lounge anytime you feel like. The hotel also houses an award-winning spa.

Expedia Tip: If you’re looking for a quiet, grown-up getaway, this is it.

Eat & Relax

Being so close to the equator, Seminyak has a warm, humid climate – the air-conditioning in every room will be a welcome respite from the heat. Other amenities include en-suite bathrooms, satellite LCD TV with DVD player, minibar and high speed wifi that will make you feel right at home.

You’ll definitely be spending time by the pool, so familiarise yourself with the a la carte options at the Poolside Café. It serves breakfast, lunch, and of course, cocktails.

There’s so much to explore, food-wise, around the hotel – Ku De Ta, Potato Head, Naughty Nuri’s, Sarong, Metis, Mamasan, Sardine, Biku and La Lucciola are all highly recommended and renowned the world-over, and within short walking distance. Metis is recommended if you want an immersive experience, as dining here gives you a open view of Bali’s famous rice fields. They serve French cuisine with Asian fusion.

Having said that, the URCHIN Grill & Raw Bar within the hotel plates delicious, modern Australian-style fare worth checking out. It has an open-kitchen concept and completes that beach villa feel.
