Wrigley Field

Chicago’s world-renowned baseball ground, Wrigley Field is an iconic stadium where you can learn about the all-American sport and even catch a game.

Home of the legendary Chicago Cubs, Wrigley Field is known and loved by baseball fans from all over the world, many of whom flock here to see a match or simply soak up the history and the atmosphere. One of the oldest and most storied ballparks across America, Wrigley Field has a proud heritage dating back all the way to 1914.

The ground has been the spot of many of the most memorable moments in the history of this great all-American sport. It was here, for instance that Babe Ruth had his famous ‘called shot’ in the 1932 World Series, when he is said to have pointed to the bleachers, predicting he would score a home run – and then did. The passion of the Chicago fans for their team led Cubs legend Ernie Banks to dub the ground ‘The Friendly Confines’. You can see them in action and go and watch a game if you happen to be around anytime between March and September.

During the season, you can also head to the ground to take an hour-long guided tour. On a game day, you’ll get to see the seating bowl, bleachers, indoor batting cage and field. Head to Wrigley Field on a non-game day and you’ll even be able to see the visitors’ and Cubs’ clubhouse, the dugout, press box and the field of play. Be sure to book in advance on the web to secure your tickets.

Some of the unique features you can find throughout Wrigley Field are famous in their own right, such as the ivy-coloured outfield and the original scoreboard dating back to 1937, on which the score is still changed by hand to this day. The art deco sign which hangs over the entrance to the ground has been a local landmark since the 1930s, bearing the words “Wrigley Field, Home of the Chicago Cubs”.

If you’re in town during the season, you can still watch a game even if you don’t manage to get your hands on tickets for the stadium. Head to one of the nearby official rooftop venues, kitted out with bleachers, as well as offering food and drinks, to enjoy the next best thing.

The stadium stands eight kilometres to the north of downtown Chicago and is easy to access by public transport.
