Gain insight into the process of distilling with The Scotch Whisky Experience. This unique museum is more than just a chance to sip the golden liquid, but also includes a ride that leads you through the story of whisky and a room with possibly the world’s largest private collection of the drink. This means that when you do start tasting the historic Scottish spirit, your appreciation for it will have increased dramatically.
Sit in a barrel that spins its way through the distilling process as you are surrounded by lit-up bubbles and fields of barley and malt. A guide, projected onto the walls, talks you through each step required to make a finely crafted whisky. The ride is an experience for all the senses, as you also travel through the smells of oak and peat and feel the heat of a pot still.
Listen to experts share their love of the drink and describe just what it is that makes scotch whisky so special. The lecture also explains how to recognise the aromas of different kinds of scotch.
Stand in awe of the gigantic whisky collection, which features over 3,300 bottles. The original collector, a Brazilian named Claive Vidiz, started picking up bottles in the 1970s with an aim to build as diverse a selection as possible. Gaze at whisky bottles of every shape and vintage in the glass cabinets of the centre’s collection room.
Try a sample of your malt of choice while surrounded by the glowing bottles of the collection. Silver Tours buy you one taste with your ticket, while a Gold Tour adds on an extra tasting session with four more drinks after the museum. Try to discern between the flavours of Scotland's different regions and decide on your favourite so you can buy a bottle to take home.
