"I did book this hotel for two nights but decided to book another hotel for the replacement of the second night here. This is an older hotel. It is next to the Arashiyama Train station. Great location for being next to a quiet train station. The inside needs updating. Our room is non smoking but walking to the room it smelled strong of cigarette smoke. "Super unique experience off the beaten path to stay in a beautiful Ryokan. Would be great for a value with larger families, but be prepared to understand the busses or get a taxi, not a ton to do in the immediate area. On the other hand, staff was nice, limited but plenty of English with my terrible Japanese. Food was excellent and beautifully plated. Rooms were truly amazing, one of my favorite things on my travels."

"The staff is friendly and they offer transportation to and from the train station when you arrive and check out. The rooms have a lot of space. The rooms need to be deep cleaned, there was a lot of mold and grime. The toilet room smells like a porta-potty 24/7, the AC does not work well and we woke up sweating multiple times a night. The bed had hair on it that was not ours and the carpet needed to be vacuumed. "

"An amazing and unique traditional stay in a small town outside of Kyoto. It is secluded and we were still able travel to Kyoto, Nara, Osaka, and Kobe.
