This stately building once held the official offices of Nicaragua’s president and is surrounded by the fascinating landmarks of Managua’s historic center.

Visit Casa Presidencial to see where the old offices of the Nicaraguan president were once located. The building faces the Plaza de la Revolución, where dramatic events in Nicaragua’s tumultuous history occurred. Stroll around the square to admire the striking colonial architecture of the capital.

Examine the entrance of the striking orange-colored building. The structure was built using funds donated by the Taiwanese government during the reign of President Arnoldo Aleman. While visitors are free to study the exterior, note that the interior, which now serves as a function space for cultural events, remains closed to the general public. Arrive at night to see the structure brilliantly lit and relax in the cool evening air.

Spend some time in the Plaza de la Revolución. See the tomb of the famous Sandinista commander Carlos Fonseca and look for a statue representing celebrated poet Rubén Darío.

Explore the amazing archaeology and paleontology exhibits in the National Museum, located near the Casa Presidencial. The museum’s exhibits are housed in the impressive National Palace (Palacio Nacional de la Cultura) building, once the seat of Nicaragua’s government. Examine pre-Columbian ceramics, study colorful murals and go on a guided tour to learn about the cultural history of this beautiful tropical country.

Take a photo in front of the ruins of the Old Cathedral of Managua, which was built in 1920 and shipped out from Belgium. Appreciate the beauty of the clock tower and colonial façade, the shell of which has survived despite the extensive damage inflicted by an earthquake in 1972.

Casa Presidencial is located in the historical center near the shores of Lake Managua. Take a taxi from your hotel to this landmark building. Check current safety recommendations for the area surrounding the plaza before venturing out to explore.
