Bring your kids to this family-friendly beach and admire the vista of the outcrops, islands and verdant hills that sprout from beautiful Concha Bay.

One of the main urban strands in San Sebastian, Ondarreta Beach is a wide stretch of golden sand beside picturesque Igueldo Mount. Its shallow water and flat sand provide ideal conditions for the entire family. Snap photos of the mossy mound of Santa Clara Island that rises tall from the bay beside a headland.

Bring a blanket for picnicking or sunbathing on this scenic spot. The beach is not particularly long, but it is wide, leaving plenty of space for families at low and high tide. Expect to meet a fairly young crowd on this beach, which is preferred by locals. Speak with a tour operator to rent kayaks to take out on the water.

Wander through the grassy gardens at the back of the beach and look for the Queen Maria Cristina Statue. Kids can have fun playing in the sandy playground area.

At the eastern end of the beach, see the Pico del Loro, an outcrop that holds up the Miramar Palace. Stroll along the curved walkway that meanders around the cliffs before reaching neighboring Concha Beach.

Climb the trails leading up to Igueldo Mount, which is covered with houses and resorts. The three sculptures here make up the Comb of the Wind project by Basque artist Eduardo Chillida. Enjoy the stunning views of Ondarreta Beach from the peak of this hill.

Use the showers and restrooms on the beach and rent an umbrella for refuge from the scorching summer sun. Purchase snacks and drinks from the small bar and stall in the center of the beach.

Ondaretta Beach overlooks Concha Bay, a little west of San Sebastian’s town center. Ride a bus to one of the many stops on the streets backing onto the beach. Visit nearby highlights, such as the adjacent Monte Igueldo Amusement Park, the Concha Promenade and the Miramar Palace.

You cannot walk along the sea front to go from beach to beach but plenty quiet streets for walking away from traffic.

A warning to people who are not strong swimmers - there are strong undercurrents in this bay and the breakers can be quite rough at times during the day.
