Nature’s Valley Beach is a lovely setting in a picturesque resort area overlooking a scenic river lagoon and the Indian Ocean. The area surrounding the beach consists of lush green forests that sweep across the terrain between mountains and ocean. Sunbathe on the soft white sand of the long beach that is massaged by warm waters.
Find a secluded spot on the beach for a picnic with a scenic backdrop of the ocean. Join the surfers out on the waves or go for a swim in the water.
Go sailing or canoeing in the placid freshwater of the Groot River Lagoon just near the beach. Fishermen gather to try fly-fishing in the lagoon and surf fishing on the beach where the freshwater meets the sea.
Wait for the sunset and watch the sky darken over this scenic region. The stars shine brightly here, far away from urban sprawl. Stay at one of the lodges and guest houses in the town of Nature's Valley a few blocks from the beach.
Inland wander through the spectacular terrain of the Tsitsikamma Park, which is a protected coastal reserve with imposing coastline views and mossy mountains. It has a temperate rainforest made up of real yellowwood, stinkwood and Outeniqua yellowwood. Appreciate the serenity here as you listen to birdcalls that take you away from city life.
Hike in the De Vasselot Nature Reserve or follow the 26-mile (42-kilometer) Otter Trail that parallels the shoreline and rises over cliffs between beaches and rivers. Many adventurers consider it among the most varied and picturesque trails in the country, completing it in around 5 days. Book huts in advance to stay overnight.
Nature’s Valley Beach lies on the scenic Garden Route on the southern cape of South Africa. It is in front of the Tsitsikamma Mountains and beside the Groot River Lagoon and the Sout River. Drive east from Keurboomstrand for 16 miles (26 kilometers) to get here. Head west into the forest for the Elephant Sanctuary, Monkeyland and Birds of Eden.
