"This is an old hotel. Staying there, you are going a generation back in time, perhaps reflecting Haast itself. The hotel, however, is very clean. The staff is super friendly. The hotel hosts a restaurant, where locals seem to like to hang out. The food and beer are good, the atmosphere is chilled, and there is a pool table!!Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would recommend it! "

"Nice secluded, historic, wilderness resort with easy access to make hiking trails. You have the option of bringing and preparing your own food or eating at their restaurant. A bit pricey but a nice place if you are a hiker."

"I must admit that when my husband said "ecolodge" and "composting toilets" I was a little wary. From arrival we were blown away by the beauty of the property and friendliness of the staff. We were so impressed that we weren't even unpacked and we were discussing extending our stay. We dropped one of our planned stops on our trip to NZ just to stay here longer. Besides being beautifully designed everything is done with great ecological care. Those composting toilets that I was worried about were actually pretty cool and didn't seem much different than a standard toilet. Our cabin was absolutely charming and we were so appreciative of the snacks and drinks left for us. Loved sitting in the chairs on the porch as well. Breakfast was always delicious with so many choices. (Best scrambled eggs I've ever had and the chef graciously shared the secret with me when I asked what the ingredients were.) I also really enjoyed the morning yoga offered. "

Best stay in Milford Sound!

"Our stay on this luxury boat in Milford Sound was absolutely unforgettable—easily a 5-star experience! The highlight was being on the water after all the tours had left, giving us an incredible sense of peace and exclusivity. Waking up surrounded by majestic mountains, with the soft sounds of nature and the peaceful morning mist, was simply magical. The wildlife sightings added to the charm, making every moment feel special. The food was outstanding, with each meal beautifully prepared and delicious, and the service was impeccable—attentive yet unobtrusive, ensuring we had everything we needed. To top it off, the beds were incredibly comfortable, allowing us to rest and recharge in total luxury. This experience in Milford Sound exceeded all our expectations, and we couldn’t have asked for a more perfect stay. Highly recommend!"

"Nice place but charge for every little thing. $10 to rent a kitchen package (plates, pots etc.). How bout $$10 refundable deposit. ( A surprise for travelers blowing through…. Where every other stop all was provided). Cabin was nice but no towels. Showers were $1 increasing to $2. Won’t come back here. "

"It was a magical place in a magical, breathtaking setting. We had one of the 3-course dinners which was delicious and beautifully presented. The communal kitchen was very nice and inviting for when you wanted to cook for yourself. We were lucky to get to spend our two nights in the heritage cottage facing the lake. The bed was extremely comfortable and the washroom spotlessly clean and very stylish. The staff we chatted with were all very warm and friendly. "
