Property is in a secluded forested area providing pleasant surroundings. Designed as a conference center, it is very large but quiet when no conferences are goin on.

The Colonial is a beautiful place to stay when visiting Gardner. Friendly staff, easy check in, restaurant on property is quite good. Comfortable room, quiet area.

Room was noisy at times. Not sure if it was bad luck but we could hear the people upstairs at all hours of the night. Things kept rattling on our room every time they walked. Also, we were at the end of a corridor where it seemed everyone came to talk on the phone... it was also near an exit door and often the smell of cigarette smoke would seep in through the door. The heat/cool unit in the room was also not very good. It either burned hot or was freezing cold even when we tried to adjust, it onlt seemed to work on 2 settings. It's really unfortunate because the hotel was actually pretty nice, the amenities were great but the room was below average.

I do realize that the Colonial Hotel has been around for a long time, so I think the floors need to be updated. Very noisy while walking and the floor in our room, it seemed as though the plywood under the carpet was not attached. Otherwise, it was a very nice stay.
