If you’re looking for a calm space to escape the noise and chaos of the city, make your way to KLCC park, a popular recreational retreat in the heart of the city centre. Tucked away at the foot of the giant Petronas Towers, this urban sanctuary is a haven for families, shoppers, romantics, joggers, bibliophiles and those who simply need to take time out from the stresses of modern living.As city-centre parks go, this one stands head and shoulders above the rest. Visually, it is a stunning space where pretty lakes sit snugly in lush green landscape. Charming water features are dotted throughout amid a number of cascading pools. Elegant sculptures are thoughtfully scattered throughout the verdant greenery and tropical plants and trees waft their perfume along the breeze creating a feast for the senses. And all of this in the middle of an urban jungle!People-watching is always a popular pastime and, happily, there are a number of cafés dotted around the perimeter of the lake which are perfect for doing just that. Order what you fancy, then sit back and watch the world go by.Families will be pleased to know that the park is particularly child friendly with a well-equipped playground that will keep them busy while you relax. There is even a large children’s pool which is perfect for cooling off on a hot day.For those who like to keep fit, there’s an excellent 1.3-kilometre jogging track that traverses the park. If you’re up to it, this is a great way to take in all the sights and sounds. If sweating it out isn’t your thing, find a secluded, shady spot and allow the peace and tranquillity to wash over you.After a day stomping around the sights, there is no better spot to relax and unwind. Spend a couple of hours wandering through the manicured lawns and allow the sweet birdsong to ease away any tension.The park is perhaps best known for its spectacular Lake Symphony, held daily at noon and dusk. This colourful ballet of water fountains and light is a terrific antidote to the bedlam of the Malaysian capital.Finally, take a moment to sit and contemplate in the serene surroundings of the Masjid As Syakirin Mosque. Situated at the northern edge of the park, this architectural gem is most definitely the jewel in the KLCC Park crown.
