Even tho it may be out of the comfort zone of some westerners, I think everyone should stay at a ryokan. It’s truly the most zen experience! We even tried soaking in the onsite onsen. Try it! "Aura Tachibana is a Japanese style Onsen accommodation with large Japanese style rooms facing the mountains. We were checked in by a gentleman called Bappa Mondal from our hometown in India (Kolkata) and he was incredible. He explained all the options, did his best to accommodate the dietary restrictions for my wife and gave valuable advice on local transportations. The room was large, quiet and elegant."
