"It was our first stay in Sri Lanka, but I must say, charging for extra bottles of water … that’s not acceptable anymore, c’mon! Food was ok, I would rate 3.5 out of 5, service of the staff were also ok! Overall, I think they still have a lot of room for improvement "

"Friendly and helpful staff. A pleasant, modern hotel in relatively central location. In the built-up hustle and bustle of Kandy which may not be to everyone’s taste. Breakfast was good value. Room was simple but comfortable with modern bathroom and hot shower. One small issue - our room was one of those situated around a central stairwell and noise of people up and down stairs/in and out of rooms etc carries - can be disturbing late in the evening. "

"The hotel exceeded our expectations particularly in terms of cuisine. The breakfast, the al a carte menu and the dinner buffets were excellent. The staff were friendly and very attentive and the rooms were spacious and comfortable. The views from the rooms & the restaurant were majestic. The roof top bar was a plus but the rainy weather interrupted our use of the facility. All in all a perfect two day stay and I highly recommend this boutique hotel for visitors to Kandy. "

"It is very nice hotel, the view is pretty, but the staff are not trained at all, their is poor. The food is okay, heavy in the SriLankan food. I love the chef very helpful, excellent English, and pleasant. unfortunately I forgot his name. "

"Beautiful new hotel with clean and modern rooms. We didn’t eat at the hotel but restaurant looked nice and pool is beautiful. It’s a short tuktuk ride to town but nice and quiet and city views."

"This hotel was perfectly located in Kandy for a short visit and the staff were very friendly and helpful on the reception The aircon didnt work in our room which meant it was very stuffy. The room was comfortable but could have a little TLC to make it better. Great to be so close to the lake and easyto get tuktuks outside. "

"Lovely historic hotel, yet sadly long overdue for a major renovation. Upgraded to a suite (thank-you), yet broken air conditioner that staff tried to fix with a broomstick/leaking ceilings in various rooms (dangerous on floorboards)/light bulbs broken & not replaced/dangerous electrical PowerPoints/shower mechanism broken & fell Off & hot water tap itself overheats & liable to burn. "This hotel has spacious rooms and lovely windows to look over the city. What was absolutely outstanding was the customer service and genuine care from staff. We needed to extend our stay on our day of check out after being hospitalised in kandy. The staff organised everything and even waited until we were discharged from hospital at 1230AM to hand deliver us our room key and make sure we got in safe. "

"Taru Villas backs onto the railway, which is absolutely charming, watching the odd train come by while eating dinner on the terrace. The joy of the place is that it's an oasis in the middle of town - don't let reviews put you off that say it's noisy as when it comes to bedtime we did not hear a thing from our room with the ceiling fan on. "Fantastic stay at Marvel Hills. Sarath is the perfect host, welcoming, friendly and helpful. Breakfast offerings were plentiful both traditional and western. The room was clean, spacious and comfortable. Sarath organised a TukTuk for us for a day with a friendly local. Would highly recommend and we will definitely be returning. "
