Walk the sumptuous halls, botanical gardens and working farm of this beautifully preserved 16th-century manor where Queen Victoria stayed in 1851.

Visit Croxteth Hall and Country Park for insight into the life of an upper class Edwardian family and its servants. Admire the classical furnishings and fittings and explore beautifully preserved gardens and farmland.

Built during the 16th century, the hall has been lived in by some of the area’s most prestigious families, and even served as accommodation for Queen Victoria when she visited Liverpool in 1851. Most recently it was the home of the Earl of Sefton and the Molyneux family. Following the earl’s death in 1972, the house and grounds were opened to visitors.

Enter the hall and see the splendid furnishings enjoyed by the Molyneux family. Much of the furniture is original and several rooms feature displays with mannequins which help bring the past to life.

Visit between April and September and wander around the stunning Victorian walled gardens. See the historical plant collection and the vegetable plots that once grew produce for the hall’s residents. Be sure not to miss the Glasshouse Botanical Gardens which house an exotic array of wild flowers and trees. An experienced group of local gardeners are always on hand to offer advice and answer any questions you may have.

Continue on to Home Farm to witness a working farm in action and see the collection of rare animals. Try to plan your day around feeding time which takes place mid-afternoon before the farm closes to visitors. After this time the horses and cows can be seen grazing in the estate’s grounds. Explore the country park to discover an array of wildlife which inhabit the woodland and ponds. An adventure playground is available for younger visitors while events such as horse riding lessons and orienteering courses take place, particularly during the summer months.

Croxteth Hall is open daily. Note that opening times for the gardens and farm vary throughout the year. There are separate admission fees for the hall, farm and gardens, and all-inclusive family tickets are available.
