Quaint cottage
We stayed at Bere Cottage when taking my son to university in Canterbury. It is a quaint, very old cottage, and although charming it could do with a bit of TLC - I felt the carpets needed a deep clean, ditto the front door, which would also benefit from a lick of paint, the carpet on the stairs needed replacing, but overall the kitchen and bathroom were clean, the sofas and beds very comfortable and the location perfect, with a good pub just a minute away. Beware of the stairs with young children or for anyone with an infirmity - they are narrow and steep, and as they curve around are triangular in shape. There is a wooden spiral staircase up to the second bedroom, which is charming and a decent size, as are all the rooms. The bathroom is on the ground floor, so if you need it in the middle of the night you have to negotiate those stairs! Not easy for me as I have a broken shoulder! The driveway needs attention. It is too narrow and made worse by the untended bushes at the entrance making it even narrower, and which scratched our car. As the road is so narrow it is very difficult to get in and out of the drive, so widening it and cutting back the bushes would help. As would a more stable surface, the gravel makes it even more difficult and we had clutch burn a couple of times. The garden overall is not tended, and feels quite neglected. However, all that said, we would stay again due to the convenience.
