Combining historic architecture with modern facilities, Auckland’s harbourside transport terminal is the place to embark on an adventure or simply sit with a coffee and watch the world go by.

Auckland Ferry Terminal is a major hub in the region’s ferry network. Its magnificent heritage architecture is a nostalgic sight for those leaving or returning to Auckland’s shores. The stunning Edwardian Baroque building has been a city landmark since 1912, while the ferry terminal’s contemporary ferry piers provide modern facilities for travel around the harbour network.

Spend some time admiring the Auckland Ferry Terminal’s beautifully restored heritage architecture. Painted dark yellow with brick and sandstone highlights, the elegant building provides the link between Auckland CBD and with Waitemata Harbour. It is distinctive for its symmetrical arches and spired clock tower. Explore the shops or take a break at one of the harbour-fronting cafés on the terminal’s lower levels.

If you are embarking on a ferry journey, head to the modern wharves and waiting areas to the east of the heritage building. This low-roofed facility has an open-sided structure, providing a convenient and comfortable place to begin or end your ferry journey. Travel to North Shore City or a range of locations around Waitakere City and Manukau City on the ferries that depart from the terminal. Check out nearby destinations such as Devonport, Bayswater, Stanley Bay or Birkenhead. Go on an adventure to Waiheke Island, Great Barrier Island, Rangitoto Island, Half Moon Bay or Beachlands.

Auckland Ferry Terminal is located in the centre of the CBD’s harbour area. Behind it is Auckland’s major transport hub, Britomart Transport Centre, which connects local trains and buses to other destinations around the city and beyond. Purchase ferry tickets at the terminal or onboard most boats. The Auckland Ferry Terminal is open daily and free to visit, but ferry ticket prices vary between operators. Concession ferry tickets are available and you can purchase an AT HOP card for discounted multitrip tickets.

Explore the surrounding Auckland Waterfront to experience the city’s fantastic harbourside dining precinct. Head to Wynyard Quarter to visit the Auckland Fish Market and order some freshly cooked fish and chips. Fantastic shopping, dining and a local farmers market are at the pedestrianised Britomart area.
