At the heart of Colorado's skiing district lies a maze of challenging runs, many of which double as summer hiking trails.

Aspen Mountain's high proportion of expert slopes make it particularly suited to accomplished skiers. Even non-skiers will be drawn to its picturesque walking routes and lively mountain activities. Jump into a gondola to experience everything on the peak, from its Olympic-standard slopes to its scenic dining options and unparalleled views.

Glance at a trail map of Aspen Mountain and note the large number of double black diamonds covering the downhill runs, indicating their difficult nature. Plunge from the highest peak, skimming down lengthy drops including the Ridge of Bell, which draws skilful riders. Numerous blue routes provide options for less experienced visitors, winding gently through tree-covered glades.

Even more thrills are available for those who seek them. Fulfil your need for adventure on the backcountry tours that take you down fresh powder away from the conventional runs. Catch some air down the mogul courses of Face of Bell and Back of Bell. After skiing, stop at the bars for après-ski fun or relax next to the slopes at Sundeck restaurant for a dinner facing panoramic landscapes. Stay at the Little Nell, a legendary Aspen hotel and restaurant.

Pack a water bottle and sturdy boots for a hike around the mountain in summer. At the gondola ticket office, pick up a brochure which shows the many marked routes in the area. Many trails begin at the Sundeck. Find treks and strolls to suit all abilities and follow them to spectacular viewpoints. Watch paragliders taking off from several spots on high ridges.

The mountain hosts several other activities throughout the year. In winter, head up the slopes on a snowcat tour, which takes you through powder-filled woods. In summer, disc golf provides a leisurely alternative. Stretch your body and spirit at one of the free yoga classes on the Sundeck.

The winter season on Aspen Mountain runs from November to mid-April. In summer, it’s possible to purchase package deals that combine bus rides to local sights, lift passes and food vouchers for mountain dining. Enjoy the entire Aspen Snowmass destination for great year-round fun and adventure.
