We booked the room and got the cancellation insurance through Expedia with the for the same day. Then had to cancel in 30-45 min. The person who we wanted to surprise turned out to be sick. We called the Hotel to cancel, they said call the Expedia. When we called Expedia they said you were supposed to do it through the hotel. We said we got the insurance- but the insurance required the sick person’s first and last name. The hospital he was in/ if in hospital, the caring doctor’s name who can confirm and A LOT MORE information. Then later the Expedia sent an email saying that hotel where we got the room, did not pick up the phone, so they could not talk to them, so they will not refund the money. Which was just plain unprofessional, because they said :”no refund “ - first time we called. So there it is. We were -$321 - without staying in hotel - even with insurance
